CivicLens began as a working AI prototype. Our next goal is to turn it into a standalone platform that helps students, educators, and everyday readers analyze news wherever they encounter it.
Phase 1: Working Prototype
CivicLens currently allows users to paste or upload a news article and receive an AI-supported media literacy analysis. The prototype focuses on framing, charged language, source selection, headline alignment, and missing perspectives.
Phase 2: Standalone Web App
The next version of CivicLens will be developed as an independent website with a cleaner interface, faster article analysis, saved results, and improved access outside of the original prototype platform.
Phase 3: Browser Extension
Our long-term vision is a Chrome extension that allows users to analyze articles directly from the page they are reading. Instead of switching tabs or copying text, users could activate CivicLens while reading the news online.
Phase 4: Classroom Tools
CivicLens will continue expanding toward education-focused features, including teacher resources, student reflection prompts, classroom activities, and tools for comparing how different sources frame the same issue.
Our Priorities
As CivicLens grows, we will continue prioritizing transparency, privacy, and critical thinking. CivicLens is not designed to tell users what to believe. It is designed to help them ask better questions.
